CResidence Addition

The C Residence Addition was conceived as a thoughtful expansion of an existing corner-lot home in Concepcion, Marikina, addressing the family's evolving spatial requirements while respecting the character of the original residence. Developed as a concept design, the proposal focused on introducing a new ground-floor bedroom with an adjoining toilet and bath, creating a more functional and accessible living environment without requiring major alterations to the existing structure.

Given the property's location in a flood-prone area, the proposed addition was elevated above the existing grade to enhance resilience against seasonal flooding while maintaining seamless circulation between old and new spaces. The design carefully integrated the extension into the existing footprint, allowing the new volume to appear as a natural continuation of the residence rather than an afterthought.

Architecturally, the concept reimagined the home's façade with a clean contemporary language defined by simple geometric forms, horizontal rooflines, textured finishes, and a restrained palette of neutral tones accented by muted green elements. Large windows introduce generous natural light into the new bedroom while improving ventilation and strengthening the visual connection between the interior and the surrounding streetscape. The refreshed exterior gives the residence a modern identity while remaining sensitive to the scale and context of the neighborhood.

The interior concept emphasized comfort, warmth, and practicality. The proposed bedroom features a well-organized layout with built-in storage, dedicated furniture zones, and carefully selected finishes that create a calm and inviting atmosphere. A contemporary en-suite bathroom was likewise designed with durable materials and efficient space planning to maximize everyday functionality.

Although the project remained at the conceptualization stage, the C Residence Addition demonstrates KDA Design + Architecture's approach to residential renovations—creating solutions that enhance livability, respond to site-specific challenges, and modernize existing homes while preserving their familiarity and value. The proposal illustrates how strategic architectural interventions can extend the life of an existing residence and adapt it to the changing needs of its occupants through thoughtful, context-sensitive design.
